My video response to these questions has had to be split into 2 parts due to its length and size of file.

--The first question was, In what way does your film         use develop or challenge products of media?

However the interviewer split the question into 2 parts so I could further explain my point.

Music For Our Sequence

Recently in our theory lessons we have started looking at the music industry. We have been learning about the big four and started doing case studys on our own independent record label and Sony.

These lessons have made our group start to think about the music used in our opening sequence and that composing it wont be as easy as we thought.

When planning our project the music slowly got moved further and further towards the end of the to do list as our main priority was getting all of the filming sorted first. Now that we have finished our filming we turned to the music problem to see how we could solve it.

Our original plan was to use a local band called Monday Comas music as 2 members of our group are in the band. However although the band was happy for us to use any of their music so long as we had the bands name featured in the titles we couldnt decided which song suited our sequence as although the tune fits perfectly the lyrics arent as upbeat as we want our film to seem.

People may look on this problem as something very minor but the soundtrack to a film says alot about the film itself. For example you wouldnt use a dubstep/elctro track on a romatic comedy you would use it on an action thriller possibly.

A good example of soundtracks used in film is all of the bond films. They all use a rememerable theme tune which tends to sell well before and after the film due to the synergy used by the producers of the film and of the track itself.

This is the song we will be using for our film.

Filming/Editing Session

In this lesson all of the group were present however again we split into the same 2 pairs as last lesson but instead of putting together music Lauren and Ben went out into Woodstock to finsih of the filming whilst me and Izzy sat and edited the final few scenes together.

above is all of the footage we have together bar a few scenes which I still have to add in but have been filmed.

We are very pleased with the quick change part of the film as we think it quickens up the pace as to not make it boring but also shows the average week of our charachter and the indecesion of her not even knowing what to wear.

Production meeting 3

In this meeting again everyone was present however we split into 2 pairs. Me and Izzy (Director) went and uploaded the footage onto the editing software and began peicing together our sequence whilst making a note of what shots we still needed to do or what shots we needed to redo due to the quality of them.

Here is the first rough cut of our sequence we still need to do alot more filler shots as many shots we thought we funny and looked good on the day actually turned out to be unusable or not the best shot we could have done.











Our brief has now changed slightly as we discovered the film shouldn't have funny/comedy elements to it as they will be to difficult to film/script and we don't have the time to do that. Our breif is now going to be a meaningful but still uplifting film about a busker who gets noticed by a record label signs to them but then realises that she was actually having more fun busking and doesn't need the pressure from a record label to make good music.

This change in brief means my job of editing has changed slightly as instead of just putting one scene then another with short sharp cuts and maybe a few fades I am now going to be fading/crossfading, slowing shots down changing the saturation alot more on the shots to give it a warmer feel and generally making the shots seem a bit slower and more meaningful opposed to just funny.

The tasks we were given were to go out and film sometime in the next week as we will only need to do 30mins or so of filming to get all we need. However Ben and I aren't able to get to Laurens house to do the interior shots so we are going to rely on Izzy to film as much as she can in order for me to have another rough edit available in the next few days.

First Filming Session

Our first filming session had all of the group present (Me,Izzy,Lauren and Ben).

The first task was to find how we were going to film at our location. The location was a back street alley on a housing estate near to the school we all go to. At the moment blogspot isnt letting me upload the footage onto this post so I will upload all of our shots from the firsfilming session and the second filming session shortly when the site is working again.
The problems we had with shooting this paticular shot was the way in which we wanted to keep the 'ruralness' out of the screen as we thought it would break the illusion of the setting we are trying to put across. we tried 1 or 2 shots of Lauren (Our Character) seeing her in the full but everytime she moved we saw feilds and woodland behind her. In the end we decided to shoot her from the stomach down but starting her very far away and zoomed in. this allows the audience to see her in her entirety but not see the feilds behind her as the angle makes us only see the wall.

This shot will go into our final project as the lighting is very good and with the other few shots it blends perfectly as if no change in location has been done.

I will post the other few shots we have as new posts so please comment with what you think of them and how they can be improved.

Stereotypes

In our class we have recently been discussing stereotypes in TV drama. I personally have been applying this to our final piece of coursework and the character in it. Our group decided none of us wanted the character to be or conform to any stereotype. We want her to be an outsider someone who is different and likes being different.

Some examples of stereotypes in the media are;

• the steroetype of homosexuality in men. This is ofter portrayed as a very feminite man who cares alot about his apperance what he wears his hair etc. 
• stereotype of women. Often good looking blonde wears skirts/ dresses wears make up. Mainly stays at home looks after the children and cooks/cleans 
• Stereotype of men hardworking wears a suit goes and works all day clean shaven

The point in noticing all of these steroetypes is to show how our character isnt any of them. for example shes a girl but doesnt wear "girly" clothes, she smokes, she plays guitar and busks. None of these things would make you think of a girl but yet when you put them all togther on the person we have chose for our character it works.

Our Preliminary Task

This is our preliminary task showing some simple shots and some match on action.

It hasn't been edited as we don't know how to use the software properly and we didn't want to ruin what we had.

Jobs Specifications on a film set

On a film set there are many different jobs to be filled by memebers of the crew. We have recently learnt about what each job means and what role theyu play in the final production. Here is some examples of jobs on a film set.

• Producer- A producer basically looks after the entire film from raising money for the film to coordinating all of the key aspects together such as sorting a location checking with the authorities to check if filming is allowed at certain times and the noise level allowed in the location.

• Production manager- The production manager or PM is resbonsible for keeping the filming on time and on schedule as everyday must have a chceck list as what needs to be filmed and what needs to be accomplished at the end. Its also there responsiblilty to keep control of the equipment funding and work out the physical costs of the film.

• Post Priduction Supervisor- They are responsible for keeping the post production on schedule. for example maiing sure the editing is run on time and the CGI or negative cutting is on time and coordinating everything together

• Director- A director looks after all of the film and finds the creative aspects and exploits them whilst maintaining control and supervising every part of filming for casting to post production.

• Cinematographer- A cinematogrpaher sometimes called director of photography is responsible for the filming and organisation of the film crew during the production.

• Camera Operator- These people operate and set up the camera whilst follwing specific instructions from the director and Director of Photography

• Sound Mixer- They are responsible for the post production sound and fitting all the noise and speech with the video and film they work very closely with foley artists

• Foley artist- They make the noises you hear in the film everything from walking on concrete to a gun being loaded.

First Filming Session

Our first filming session we focused on the foley sound. We managed to record the sound of a cigarette being rolled. Unfortunately nothing else was recorded as everywhere our group went in school it was either too loud or a teach came and told us to leave. However the quality of the cigarette noise is excellent and we will have no trouble incorporating into our filming. Our next filming session is to happen sometime next weekend probably on sunday as that is the only day any of the group are free.

Production meeting 2

Today me and Ben started planning our pre-production. We have been thinking about deadlines of certain tasks like shot and scene planning aswell as organising props and locations. I will post the completed table when our group finishes it and decides the deadlines.

Production Meeting 1

In this meeting Me,Ben,Izzy and Lauren were discussing what genre and style of film we were going to produce. At first we thought about doing a black and white style horror/thriller film. However after a quick look at previous students films in this genre we discovered how difficult it would be to create a scary/tense atmosphere. So we have now decided to do a happy feeling comedy with a main character being followed through her life by a cmaera. We chose this over other genres as we feel the effect will be fairly simple to create and the outcome will seem very professional and realistic.

We then started thinking about what could make our sequence funny and immediately we thought of things realistic that happen to everyday people but over exaggerated to become almost slapstick. We thought about tripping up curbs maybe the camera falling over something coming out of no where and hitting our character in the face and Izzy was given the task of going away and thinking of these specific moments which could be easily achieved and yet still look funny and professional.

The task I was given was to think of certain items which the titles and names of the crew/cast could appear on. So far I have stuck to the back of someones jacket, a business mans briefcase (all though finding someone to let us do that could be an issue) walls behind the character as shes walking past them. I also worked with Ben who is doing the story board and we thought the first shot could be the character coming out of a house dorr and the title could appear on the door.
